Color matters more than we might realize. It has the power to influence our mood and affect our perception of space in an interior design.

We often have a somewhat easy time picking a color for our bedroom, often settling for our favorite color or something relaxing. Throughout the main areas of the home, we may go for something safe, like white, gray, tan, or beige.

When it comes to the kitchen, however, many folks struggle with the color scheme. From the walls to the cabinets, how do you pick the right colors? Here are some of our personal recommendations:

Bright Neutrals

If you want a clean look guaranteed to look great over the years, we advise going with a bright neutral. Bright neutrals like shades of white, light beige or greige, creams, and pale taupes are classic colors which never go out of style and are highly agreed upon by most homeowners and prospective buyers.

Another benefit of bright neutral paint is the fact these colors will give you maximum interior design flexibility, allowing you to work in just about any color scheme without your entire kitchen clashing. When in doubt, always go for a clean, neutral paint.

Earthy Tones

When bright and light isn’t your style, earthy tones might be more suitable. They can be described as neutral or muted, giving off a dreary, peaceful, cozy, or sophisticated vibe. They can be reflective of slow mornings and intimate dinners.

Earthy colors can include terracotta, clay, forest brown, dusty mauve, rust, burnt orange, or sandy tones. If these colors seem too dark or risky to use on your walls, consider using it as your cabinet color, paired with a lighter neutral for your walls – or use the color on an accent wall in your kitchen.

Cool Blues

Wanting to avoid neutrals and go for more of a pop of color in your kitchen? A cool blue can be a safe yet visually pleasing option. The paler the blue you pick, the more neutral and softer the color will look in your design. Or go all for something bolder like sky blue, glacier blue, or azure.

Pair cool blue kitchen walls with white, light gray, or beige cabinetry to create a relaxing and serene kitchen environment.

Nature-Inspired Greens

If you like the idea of earthy tones but love a bolder or brighter look, consider a nature-inspired green paint color for your kitchen. Green is a relaxing and rejuvenating hue sure to bring a sense of calamity to your kitchen.

Natural green paint colors we recommend include sage green, olive, moss, hunter green, and matcha.

Deep, Modern Hues Paired with Contrast

For those wanting to add some drama or sophisticated to their kitchen, we recommend going with a dark, modern color and pairing it with lighter colors for the perfect contrast. A color scheme like this can typically offer the perfect balance of masculinity and femininity in a kitchen design.

Modern, contrasting color duos we recommend include charcoal and cream, navy and light gray, mate black and bright white, and dark taupe and cream.
